The History of the Baseball Cap
It all started with the invention of baseball in the 19th century. The sport quickly became popular in the USA, and the need for headwear that protected players' eyes from the sun arose. In the beginning, players could wear any hat or sun visor they wanted, and it was not uncommon to see straw hats – so-called boaters – on the field.
The Cap's Development
The cap as we know it today began to take shape around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and has generally undergone a steady transformation throughout the 20th century. Only those who played baseball wore them, and they were inspired by several types of brimmed hats popular at the time.
The first "proper" baseball cap was made of wool and had a leather brim. Today's caps are usually made of cotton and polyester. Caps that were initially reserved for players eventually changed use when the sport was shown on TV. Fans wanted to support their team, and thus the Baseball Cap with the team's logo became a hit.
Adorning the front of the cap with an emblem or logo also became popular among farmers and transportation companies throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and the trucker cap, which shares many similarities with the baseball cap, quickly became popular among truck drivers.
As more and more people realized the usefulness of sun protection, wearing caps became more common. Not least, the baseball cap became trendy when stars like Tom Cruise and Tom Selleck appeared with it on. From the 1990s and 2000s, the cap was also widely used by pop and rock stars.

Trucker Cap
A Trucker Cap is very similar to a Baseball Cap, but the two cap variants have certain differences: While the baseball cap is often made of cotton or polyester, the trucker cap has the characteristic mesh at the back and a front made of foam. Generally, a Trucker cap is also higher in the front, and it has an adjustable snapback closure.
Flexfit and Stretch-fit Cap
Another variant of the baseball cap is the flexible and comfortable flexfit cap. These are characterized by the elastic materials in the cap, which gives it a good fit and often a high profile. You can find them with both curved and flat brims.
